Journalist Zoegar Jaynes takes final journey

The body of Liberian broadcast journalist and veteran sports commentator presenter/reporter Zoegar Z.Q. Jaynes, will be interred tomorrow, Saturday following funeral rites at the Providence Baptist Church in Monrovia. The late Jaynes died early Friday, November 14, 2014 at a local clinic in Paynesville City outside Monrovia. He was also coach for Flames Basketball team in the Liberia basketball league.

The Sports Writers Association of Liberia will join the family of Mr. Jaynes and the Flames Basketball teams, which he helped to establish and coached along with the Press Union of Liberia to take his remains from the St. Moses Funeral Home in Gardnerville to Providence Baptist Church in central Monrovia.  SWAL has described Mr. Jaynes’ death as a set back to the Association’s constitution review process which he spearheaded.

Zoegar will long be remembered by the local sports writing body for his numerous contributions, education, and key role played in the smooth existence of the Association, including support to young SWAL members, who saw him as a teacher, role model, guidance and inspiration.

The fallen sports journalist served the State-owned Liberia Broadcasting System for many years, heading the Sports Department as senior producer and presenter. He was stringer for the BBC Sports in Liberia, and also worked with the Catholic radio station, Radio VERITAS for a couple of years.
