Rep. Gray, Amb. Neufville rally for Weah’s re-election bid

By Lincoln G. Peters

Outgoing Montserrado County Electoral District #8 Representative Moses A. Gray and his predecessor Amb. Rufus Neufville and other defeated representative candidates on Thursday rallied thousands of residents for President George Manneh Weah’s re-election bid.

Having the district seat to Mr. Gray, Mr. Neufville later worked in former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s administration as Liberia’s Chief of Protocol.

Last month the duo lost the representative election to Mr. Prince Toles, and their defeat appears to unite the longstanding rivals for Mr. Weah’s re-election campaign.

Over the years Neufville spoke out against President Weah’s regime for alleged misrule. What has changed in the run-off for Mr. Weah to gain Neufville’s support remains a mystery.

Their political rally for Weah’s re-election began at the Saye Town Community through the principal streets of Central Monrovia. It was graced by several supporters, well-wishers and partisans of President Weah’s Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

The rally was held under the banner “Street March for the Re-election bid of President George M. Weah.”

Recently, defeated representative candidates from Electoral District #8 including Neufville, James N. Fallah, and Mr. Rufus Towahsam joined efforts to support Weah’s re-election.

In an interview at the start of the march, defeated representative candidate Amb. Neufville said he had endorsed Weah’s re-election bid because he is the best candidate in the run-off.

“I have endorsed the re-election bid of President Weah because he is the best in the runoff. Best upon that, I’m rallying citizens and residents of district #8 along with Representative Gray to awaken our people to the development and progress of this government,” he stated.

For their parts, Mr. James N. Fallah, and defeated candidate Mr. Rufus Towahsam said that after several negations with Representative Gray, they came to the point of endorsing and rallying citizens for President Weah.

“We are supporting President Weah’s re-election bid not because he is handsome, but because he has the plan to transform Liberia,” the defeated representative candidates said.

“We want him to continue and complete the many progress he had started for a new Liberia,” they said further.
