Grand Bassa County Electoral District #1 Representative and former Deputy House Speaker Hans Barchue is reported dead.
According to sources, the late former Deputy Speaker died early Tuesday at the Europe Care Hospital in Monrovia following a period of illness.
Barchue was elected in the 2011 presidential and legislative elections and got reelected in the 2017 elections.
Barchue served as Deputy Speaker from January 2012 to January 2018 during the 53rd Legislature.
He shortly served as Speaker after the removal of Speaker Alex J. Tyler from August to September 2016.
The two-term lawmaker was seeking his third term during the pending October 10, 2023, presidential and legislative elections. He registered as an independent aspirant.
