RIA Terminal refurbishment begins soon

The Inter-Ministerial Committee has been mandated to speedily prioritize the fast-tracking of the implementation plan for the refurbishing of the existing Roberts International Airport Terminal.

Cabinet took the decision Friday during a special session chaired by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. The special session was held to discuss and harmonize key issues of strategic national importance.

Among the number of agenda items discussed, according to an Executive Mansion release, included an update on the Status of a number of pending items on the President’s Legislative Agenda as the Legislature prepares for its annual break and other conditions precedent on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant; the establishment of a Road Fund condition precedent for MCC grant release.

These conditions include the establishment of the Millennium Challenge Account – Liberia (MCA-Liberia) condition precedent for MCC grant release; the Axle Load draft Act – condition precedent for MCC grant release; and the Liberia Electricity draft Act – condition precedent to MCC grant release.

The Local Government draft Act; Liberia National Police (LNP), Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) and Firearms draft Acts; as well as the Land Authority draft Act; Domestic Violence draft Act; and the draft act creating the Liberia Agricultural Commodity Regulatory Agency were all issues discussed during last Friday’s special cabinet meeting on Capitol Hill.

The Cabinet also used the Session to endorse and further directed the appropriate sector Ministers to work diligently with the 53rd Legislature, and where necessary, harmonize all outstanding issues for necessary Legislative actions.

The Cabinet is expected to reconvene this Wednesday, October 14, 2015, to review what it referred to as critical national matters. -Press release
