Second Division Team Overpowers Premiere Clubs

Newly promoted second division side Aries FC, has clinched the championship of the second edition of the LISCR Trust peace and charity tournament.

Aries FC last Sunday afternoon, defeated premier side, Black Star FC 4 – 3 at the home of superb soccer display, Antoinette Tubman Stadium or ATS in the grand final of the LISCR Trust peace and charity tournament to lift high a giant- size trophy and  a cash prize of LD $60,000.00.

Black Star got the certain raiser in the six minute of the match, when James Robert’s shot on goal, beautifully landed behind goal keeper Young Kingsley. 19 minutes later (at 25 minute in the first half), Aries FC responded with a Vasidu Logan marvelous shot that went skinning one of the poles, thereby landing inside the net.

Not certified with the equalizer, Tamba Gbollie broke through Black Star’s defense to scored little Aries’ second goal in the 29 minute, but Black Star’s Saygbeh Kennedy got his side second goal after a corner kick landed right on his leg, thereby comparing him to easily scored Black Star’s equalizer.

Just seconds before the half time break ( in the 45 minute of the match), Vasidu Logan again, managed to find Aries’ third goal of the match, giving Aries a one zero lead ahead of Black Star ending the first half  3 – 2.

32 minutes (in the 77 minute) after the first half break, Meeke Freeman put some life in the fans at the relatively parked ATS, when he magnificently headed into Aries poles a ball that came from teammate Saygbeh Kennedy’s Brilliant corner kick to level the score at three all.

At this time, there were uncertainties on the minds of fans and sympathizers of both teams and soccer analysts as to who could emerge victorious at the end of the full 90 minute, giving the fact that both sides had already secured for themselves three beautiful goals each.

However, Aries skipper Kpah Sherman’s powerful shot just an inch away from the thirty veranda box after dribbling three Black Star defenders displaced the goal keeper for his side’s fourth goal.

All other efforts by Black Star to score another equalizer and eventually the winner proved faulty, as Aries defender Michael Fahnbulleh perfectly locked his side defense in security of his team’s one goal lead in the dying minute. At the end of the full ninety minute, newly promoted second division club Aries FC emerged victorious with a four- three win over premier side Black Star.

Meanwhile, at the end of the Black Star versus Aries match which was the grand final of the competition, several teams and players received cash prizes and awards for their outstanding performances during the league. Aries FC received a giant size trophy and a cash prize of LD $60,000.00 as Champions, while Black Star got a trophy and a cash prize of LD $40,000.00 as second place winner.

And I E and Watanga FC received trophies and cash prizes of LD $20,000.00 and LD $5,000.00 respectively. Awards recipients were Watanga FC striker Abraham Kuyateh, highest goal scorer, Aries FC Young Kingsley , best goal keeper, Saleah Kanneh of Watanga FC, best defender and Saygbeh Kennedy, most valuable player or MVP.

At the same time, the outgoing President of Mighty Barrolle has congratulated Aries FC for such a beautiful performance in the week-long tournament organized by Football for Hope, with full sponsorship from LISCR Trust Company.
