By Lincoln G. Peters

Police in Monrovia have confirmed the arrest of a 15 – year – old boy identified as Zayzay Johnson, affectionately called “Kwesi,” based allegation that he raped a three-year-old minor in the Soul Clinic Community, Paynesville.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect in an interview with this paper Sunday, 27 February 2022 via telephone, Police Spokesman Moses Carter said the situation was reported on 25 February 2022 shortly after it took place.

He said the suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the Soul Clinic Police Deport.

“Zayzay Johnson is the name of the suspect and he is 15 years old. The family was not around when the entire situation happened. However, the little victim was seen by residents bleeding uncontrollably and she was rushed to the clinic where health authorities … told them that the child was sexually tampered with,” Mr. Carter said.

“Later, suspect Zayzay was linked to the crime and he is now undergoing investigation” Mr. Carter noted.

The police spokesman further indicated that suspect Johnson has not provided any account to the police, but he will be thoroughly investigated, and if found culpable, will be charged and forwarded to court in keeping with the law,” said Mr. Carter.

Carter explained that the Government of Liberia through the Liberia National Police will make sure no stone is left unturned.

Earlier on Saturday, 26 February 2022, Madam Ne-Suah Beyan, spokesperson of the Rescued Abandoned and Children in Hardship (REACH), told our reporter in an exclusive interview that she was saddened and dismayed over the incident, adding that rape is getting out of hands.

Madam Beyan said the situation occurred when the little girl’s mother left her home with her grandmother and went to the Duport Road Clinic.

She said the grandmother was in the backyard garden while the victim was left playing with her friends when she was allegedly abused sexually by suspect Johnson.

Madam Beyan noted that they got to know that the victim was sexually tampered with when she was found bleeding and could not even walk properly.

She described the situation as really unbearable for the little child.

“The victim was taken to the clinic by us where she [is] undergoing medical attention. The suspect has been arrested and currently behind bars undergoing police investigation,” she said.

According to Madam Beyan, the suspect’s father and mother are giving conflicting ages of their son so as to allegedly prevent him from going to jail.

Madam Beyan said they have been told the boy is 13 years, 15 years and 17 years. But she insisted that “in all, we need justice.”

She said claimed to have asked the three-year-old rape survivor to know who raped her, and the victim allegedly responded that it was Johnson (Kwesi).
