UNDP empowers female motorcyclists
The United Nations Development Programme or UNDP-Liberia has embarked on a process of empowering female motorcyclists in the country.
UNDP says female motorcyclists need to be empowered to be able to compete with their male counterparts. The UN agency said the idea of empowering female motorcyclists is to buttress women’s initiative in responding to some of the problems they face in the society.
The UNDP in collaboration with the Angie Brooks International Centre on Sunday, February 15, 2015 distributed jackets and helmets amongst 10 female motorcyclists in Monrovia.
Speaking at the program, the head for the Angie Brooks International Centre, Cllr. Yvette Chesson_Wreh, cautioned the young women to make use of the opportunity provided them by the UNDP.
She noted that young women in Liberia need great attention in order to achieve their goals, noting that women have been left in the back, while their male counterparts dominate in everything.
The Administrator for UNDP-Liberia, Hellen Clarke, said, the agency is in partnership with the Government of Liberia to respond to challenges faced by women in the country, saying, “It is important to compete with male motorcyclists.”

According to them, some male passengers ride their bikes without paying, taking advantage of them because they are women.
However, Deputy Police Director for Operations, Abraham Kromah, has promised to provide protection for female motorcyclists in the traffic so that they would not have problem with their male counterparts.
