Liberia news

UP supporters crossed-carpet to MOVEE

Several partisans of the ruling unity party have crossed over to newly formed Movement for Economic Empowerment or MOVEE, headed by former Central Bank of Liberia Governor J. Mills Jones, pledging support to the party and candidacy of Dr. Jones in the ensuing Presidential and Representative Elections come 2017.

Addressing the crowd in a colorful program held last weekend at MOVEE headquarters in oldest Congo town, the Chairman of the break-away UP Partisans, Mr. Chancy Gibson Wlah said: “ we the disenchanted partisans of the ruling unity party have come to you – Dr. Jones, in support of your vision that you have for this country; we have come to pledge our fullest support to your candidacy in the upcoming general and presidential elections come 2017. We believe in the future of Liberia, because we have nowhere else to go,” he said, further indicating: “the candidate that was chosen by the party to contest the 2017 election in Liberia is not our candidate – we don’t believe in his old ideology, simply because these are people who stair the affairs of this country for 12th years, and nothing they can point to as leaders. Against this backdrop, we the disenchanted partisans from the Unity Party have though it wise to make a good and sound decision by declaring our support for your candidacy; there is a difference between a father and someone who is called papa.”

According to Mr. Wlah, their decision to support Dr. Jones – Political Leader of the Movement for Economic Empowerment, was on basis of his numerous work and efforts throughout the length and breadth of the fifteen political sub divisions of the country, as well as his dedicated service to many Liberian citizens.

“We want to assure you that we will work with you to ensure that your goal, mission and vision for this country are achieved,” said the former UP Partisans. Receiving the petition, the former Central Bank Governor and Political Leader of the Movement of Economic Empowerment, Dr. J. Mills Jones, expressedappreciation to the disenchanted UP partisans for taking up their time to pledge support to MOVEE, as well as his candidacy. “Thank you; it is a great pleasure for me to be with you. Your coming here today simply means you believe in the future of Liberia, and we can assure you that we stand with you in providing the kind of future you want. What I see here today at this headquarters – I understand that you want to see changes, and the best way to see the changes that you want is when yourself come up and say it, we all want change, progress and a better future for the citizens,” Dr. Jones intimated, re-emphasizing: “I know you don’t want to see the same old things that hinders our society, and today I say to you, enough is enough; we stand with you in every aspect of that change that you want. We want to assure you that we will be your candidate, because it is the right of every citizen in the political process.”

He told the former UP partisans that MOVEE did not exist for tribalism and favoritism in this country, but to ensure that the future of the country was in the hands of the rightful people – the ordinary citizens.
