US Senate pledges to work with Boakaiā€™s regime

The United States Senate has congratulated Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai on his election victory as Liberiaā€™s next president, pledging to work with him on his campaign commitments to root out corruption and uphold the rule of law.

The communication dated 13 December 2023 says:

Dear President-elect Joseph Boakai, We write to congratulate you on your election as the next President of Liberia and to applaud the commitment of the Liberian people to advancing Liberia’s democracy.

The United States and Liberia share a special relationship, and we look forward to working with you to further

strengthen our important partnership.

Over the past two decades, Liberia has become a force for democracy and stability in West Africa. Liberia’s democratic model is now more important than ever as violence and instability have spread across the region.

As you know, democracies must meet the needs of their citizens in order to thrive, and we hope to work with you to address the most pressing challenges facing Liberians.

This includes enhancing our cooperation to combat corruption, improve food security, grow economic opportunities, and preserve Liberia’s security and stability, as well as continue efforts to ensure all Liberian citizens have access to civil liberties and constitutional rights.
