Liberia’s Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, says here that the governing Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) will vigorously campaign, shooting in trenches of the country to ensure it is reelected in a resounding “one-round victory” come October.

The last election in 20217, the CDC was subjected to a runoff after it failed to obtain 50 plus one percent in the first round, as it constitutionally required to win the Presidency.

Mrs. Taylor, estranged wife of jailed former President Charles Ghankay Taylor, and incumbent President George Manneh Weah are seeking re-election to retain the helm of leadership in Liberia, but they face stiff resistance from the opposition community, with a total of 19 candidates, including one female line up against them.

The Weah-Taylor government which came to power in 2017, has been hugely criticized for massive corruption and poor performance that has increased poverty, insecurity, and suffering of ordinary Liberians.

But in spite of criticisms, the government seems resolute in its quest to continue in leadership with a promise to liberate the nation and complete unfinished developments to move Liberia forward.

Addressing reporters on Monday, 7th August at the Coalition headquarters in a fresh start to political campaign activities after a closed-door meeting with party executives, including members of the campaign team for the 2023 Presidential election, VP Taylor vowed a vigorous campaign and a resounding victory for the CDC.

“CDC plan is to take the country by storm, we are shooting in every corridor of the country, in trenches, bushes, villages, and towns to ensure President George Weah is re-elected”, she says.

The ruling Coalition Vice Standard Bearer emphasizes that they are the ruling establishment and have the pace and ingredients than all others and will not sit back, but campaign robustly to make sure victory is certain.

“We are the ruling party and our plan is to shoot in every corner, we are not going to sit back, but we are going to move in every hole, trench and let the people feel the presence of our leader, President George Manneh Weah; by doing this we will move from door to door and house to house.”

Madam Taylor speaks of tangibles of the ruling CDC amid the criticism, naming Education, Youth- Empowerment, Infrastructure developments, and road connectivity, among others that will speak for them at the ballot box on October 10th.

“We have a sitting President” she says, “who has worked hard for the Liberian people and they know it; nothing is hidden, all we are doing is taking our message to the people of what all we have done and what we are going to do for them.”

The Vice President boasts that she will give everything it takes for President Weah to return to the Presidency while acknowledging that critics have the right to fight, but Mr. Weah will emerge victorious. Editing by Jonathan Browne
