18-year-old man set ablaze

Police in Sanniquellie, Nimba County have arrested five members of a gang called “Scout Boys” for allegedly setting an 18-year-old man ablaze, nearly to death.

The victim, said to be in a very critical condition, is currently receiving medication at the G.W. Harley Hospital in Sanniquellie. peaking to our Nimba County correspondent in his sick bed, Malachi Nehkerwon narrated that he was on his way from his house on Sunday, 8 May at night when the “Scout Boys” allegedly attacked him.

He said the attackers were 15 in number when they barricaded him and stole his personal belongings, including cellphone. Malachi said some of his friends who are now members of the so-called group had engaged him on several occasions to join them, but he refused.

He said the suspects took him at the Sanniquellie air field were they set him ablaze and escaped, but five of them were arrested and sent to court in Sanniquellie. According to him, his life was saved by community residents, who went on the scene and put off the fire before taking him to the hospital.

The ringleader of the gang that carried out the arson attack has been identified only as Baryougar. Baryougar has been arrested and sent to the Sanniquellie central prison, awaiting trial.
