Boakai lauds Diaspora Liberians

-for riding "Rescue Train" to victory

President-elect Joseph Nyumah Boakai expresses gratitude to Diaspora Liberian communities for their pivotal role in steering the “Rescue Train” to victory, promising to extend development across Liberia. 

Addressing a press conference Thursday, 22 November at the Unity Party headquarters in Monrovia, Ambassador Boakai conveyed appreciation to his campaign team, individuals across the nation and in the Diaspora, and those who safeguarded the electoral process.

He emphasizes the elections’ significance, showcasing the power of the Liberian people and their dedication to democracy.

He calls for national unity, stating, “There are no green Liberians or blue Liberians, western Liberians or southeastern Liberians.”

He urges citizens to embrace each other, be magnanimous in victory, and gracious in defeat, emphasizing a collective resolve for the country’s transformation.

“I promise to extend development across this country, including building roads in the beautiful southeastern region,” Boakai says, highlighting years of rural neglect, while rallying all Liberians, regardless of background, to join the journey to rescue the nation.

He commits to addressing immediate challenges, emphasizing the need to confront economic, social, and political disparities. He vows to lead by example, promising a Liberia that benefits all citizens and actively involves rural communities in decision-making.

The President-elect also pledges to establish a responsible and accountable government, tackle corruption, and announce a transitional team for a smooth handover. He welcomes cooperation with regional and global partners, expressing intent to participate actively in global affairs.

Acknowledging tragic losses during the campaign, Mr. Boakai announces plans for security and justice reform to honor victims’ families, including a recent car ram at the Unity Party headquarters that led to three deaths and scores of persons injured, promising a thorough investigation and extending condolences to affected families.

Meanwhile, As Liberia prepares for the transition on January 22, 2024, Boakai calls on all Liberians to join efforts in rebuilding the country.
