Dr. Whapoe holds Bahn City spellbound

By Lincoln G. Peters

Opposition Vision for Liberia Transformation (VOLT) party Standard Bearer, Dr. Emmanuel Z. Whapoe, has held Nimba County spellbound, particularly Bahn City, electoral district#7 when he officially launched his campaign in the county for the Presidency.

The program, held over the weekend in an open square, saw thousands of VOLT supporters, well-wishers, including youths and elders converging from various towns and communities.

They were heard singing, “This is our own, and we will support him. Whapoe, we believe you will help Liberia, and make Nimba County great.”

Dr. Whapoe is one of 19 candidates contesting against incumbent President George Weah, who is seeking a second term, for the nation’s highest seat.

Dr. Whapoe sits 19 next to President Weah on the ballot that contains a total of 20 candidates.

Addressing the gathering, he reemphasized his quest to liberate Liberia through agriculture and human resources development.

Dr. Whapoe, an ardent agriculture campaigner and farmer, vowed to, his leadership, stamp out poverty and hardship, as a VOLT-led government will ensure Liberians are employed and paid well.

“Let me say this to you, we have come to take Liberia from poverty and hardship. Under our administration, we will ensure that poverty and hardship have no place in our society. We will deal with poverty and hardship in our society by using agriculture, particularly mechanized farming. If we can grow what we eat in this country, no money will ever leave our economy and we will be able to have the money here and will have people employed”, he promised.

The VOLT Standard Bearer said, his government will build capacity of Liberian youth in accordance with job market standards that will enable them to compete regionally and globally.

The opposition politician continued that if elected President, his administration will also ensure that his native Nimba County and the entire Liberia is united, void of ethnicity or tribalism, saying that there will be no Gio, Mano, or Mandingo tribe but on Nimba.

“Unity is the hallmark of national development. We will make sure that Liberia, and Nimba experience that true unity. Liberia has been backward too long because leaders have failed to reconcile and unite the country”, he lamented. Editing by Jonathan Browne
