GoL and World Bank Mission team conclude a week-long meeting

The Government of Liberia and the World Bank Mission has concluded a week-long meeting geared towards strengthening the Public Financial Management System across spending entities of government.

Finance and Development Planning Minister Boima Kamara, speaking on behalf of the Government of Liberia, commended the Bank for helping strengthen the country’s public financial management system across various spending entities.

Mr. Kamara also lauded the Bank for its “level of commitment and support” through capacity building and other financial support to other sectors of the Liberian economy.

According to him, the recommendations from the mission visit will be addressed. He said, “As we all gear up to strengthen the public financial management system across the government, we think that will enhance transparency and efficiency across government.”

The Liberian Finance Minister expressed the need for more engagement and support to help improve others’ financial systems and sectors across the country. He disclosed that all the areas highlighted during the Bank visit will be addressed, and various systems will become functional.

For her part, World Bank Liberia Country Manager Georgia Wallen expressed delight with the various engagements between the Bank and the Government of Liberia, including stakeholders.

Also, the World Bank Senior Financial Management Specialist and mission lead, Macdonald Nyazvigo said their mission visit was successful and well honored as part of team coordination and participation.

However, he said that great progress was also made with robust technical assistance from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. “When we visited some stakeholders, we were very impressed with the progress made, and we think we can showcase some of the progress made, ” he added.

The concluding meeting was attended by the Finance and Development Planning Minister, Boima S. Kamara, the World Bank Country Manager, Ms. Georgia Wallen, Senior Financial Management Specialist, and team mission lead, Mr. Macdonald Nyazvigo, and Senior Management Team of MFDP.

  1. It is commendable to strengthen the Public Financial Management System of the government so as to sustain transparency and efficiency in all forms. The move will ensure accountability of public funds by those who are in charge and accountable. That’s great!
