MYS Launches Coaching Seminar

The Youth and Sports Ministry’s quest to impact the soccer skills and talents of the young people in Liberia took a positive trend with the kick off of a pilot program aimed at providing the opportunities for kids to learn some basic fundamentals of playing football.

The program got off at the weekend in Ganta City Nimba County where the Technical Director for sports Development at the Youth and Sports Ministry Kelvin Sebwe staged a seminar and soccer clinics for local coaches and kids between the ages 8-16 years.

The coaches that attended the seminar were drilled through technical aspects of the game both practical and theoretical and taught how to organize the trainings for the different categories of kids aspiring of becoming football stars and their relationship to club or teams authorities.

This event is the beginning of several seminar and football clinics that the Youth and Sports Ministry hope to carry out across the country Kelvin said.  He said the initiative is part of the Sports Ministry’s grassroot program which the Ministry considers as key to the development of kids in rural parts f the country and this seminar is an eye opener for many of the local coaches and kids in Ganta Nimba County.

According to him maintaining the program as well as extending it to other parts of the country is the next focus of the Sports Ministry.  He said the program is due to be taken to other counties shortly, but called for financial support to the program. He said the program has the propensity to produce and develop future soccer kings for Liberia if the needed support is given.

The Seminar and the soccer clinic brought together about hundred kids and local coaches from Ganta City and surroundings. Kelvin was assisted with the training by Joe Nagbe and Julius Woto.

Several soccer balls were presented to the kids and coaches at the climax of the training. Speaking at the close of the program, several of the kids called for the continuity of the program in their community to help them develop their potentials.
