By Emmanuel wise Jipoh

President George Manneh Weah has donated five million Liberian dollars and five thousand of 25 kg rice to the Muslim Community observing the Holy Month of Ramadan in Liberia.

President Weah has joined in goodwill to identify with the Muslims as they observe a month of fasting.

Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf said on behalf of President Weah, the rice, and cash will be distributed to Muslim Communities across the fifteen counties of Liberia.

Minister Sirleaf stressed it is President Weah’s kind gesture as usually done in the past to identify with Muslims in their month of fasting and prayers for the nation.

Minister Sirleaf urged Muslims to remember the nation in their prayers as the country is headed to a crucial presidential and legislative election in a few months.

“If the Muslim people can break their fast with this rice and the money donated it will never be remembered by the Muslim community,” he said.

He said President Weah stands for unity and wants to see Liberians working together. He added that President Weah calls on Muslims to register and vote and participate in the pending October elections.

He urged them to offer special prayers during the period of fasting for peace, stability, and progress in the country.

Muslims in return extolled President Weah for the kind gesture and noted that he is not strange to them. They recalled that since his ascendancy to the presidency, he has always surprised the Muslim community.

“We want to appreciate the President for his kind donation to our people around the counties,” said Mohammed Bah.
