Transport Unions in Weekend Clashes

A weekend clashes in Duala on the Bushrod Island between the Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia (FRTUL) and a group calling itself the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS’s) Transport Union is reported to have left several wounded.

Though the number of persons wounded and property destroyed are unknown, eyewitnesses told this paper that the situation at the weekend was grave. There was stone-throwing resulting to the infliction of wounds.

Many hawkers and residents in the area are yet to come to term with last Saturday’s violence which has not been seen in recent times since the end of electioneering of 2011.

The melee started when the FRTUL  reportedly  called for the relocation of the ECOWAS Transport Union from the Duala Market  to ‘Ray Hill Field’ in District Seventeen (17) around the overhead bridge to Hotel Africa in Virginia.
