UK Charity Equips Hospitals

Maternal Child-health Advocacy International of the United Kingdom has presented to the Phebe and CB Dunbar maternity Hospitals, medical and surgical supplies valued at US$90,000.00.

MTCIA Honorary Director and Trustee Professor David Southall said the donations to the hospitals were his organization’s way of identifying with the efforts of the Liberian Ministry of Health and partners in building a vibrant healthcare delivery system in the Country.

Making the donation early this week, Professor Southall noted that the Medical Team Child Advocacy International was in partnership with medical centers, along with the British Health Council in the United Kingdom.

He named two oxygen generators, two Emergency Treatment Center for newborn babies, surgical equipment, as well as two oxygen concentration incubators, among several others as items and equipment in the package, adding that the oxygen generators can be used to store current in the facilities for patients and nurses with direct energy from the sun.

Professor Southall said the Emergency Treatment Center can also be used to treat sick babies, after delivery, for energy into their bodies. He pledged his Organization’s commitment to working with hospitals in the Country, most especially during the fight against the deadly Ebola Virus Disease that has clinched the lives of healthcare workers and ordinary citizens.

As part of his revelation, he promised to conduct trainings for midwives and other users of the two hospital equipment for proper use. Receiving the items on behalf of the two hospitals, Dr. Jefferson Sibley and Dr. Obed Dolo expressed gratitude the donor, noting that the gesture by the UK-based health institution would go a long way in saving the lives of patients at the two hospitals in the region.

Both doctors described the donations as timely, especially when the Ebola Virus has taken away several of lives in Bong County. They promised to use the materials and equipment properly for the good of the County and adjacent Counties. Also making remarks at the turning over ceremony at the Phebe Hospital, Bong County Health Officer Dr. Sampson Arzuaquoi lauded Professor Southall and colleagues for the equipment to the Hospitals.
