WANEP congratulates Liberians for Peaceful Election

The West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) Liberia has extended congratulatory messages to all Liberians for actively participating and contributing to having peaceful, general, and presidential run-off elections held on October 10, and November 14, 2023, respectively.

“We also applaud the efforts of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Political

Parties, the Joint Security, Civil Society Organizations, women, and youth groups for their

contributions towards the generally peaceful electoral process,” WANEP said in a statement issued Tuesday, November 21.

The West African Peace Network also commended President George Manneh Weah of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) for gracefully acknowledging and accepting the results and extending congratulatory messages to the people of Liberia, as the winners of the election, and former Vice President, Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai of the Unity Party as President-elect.

WANEP asserted that the election outcome is a victory for democracy and Liberians have proven that it is possible to change leadership through democratic means. Considering this, the stage is set for democratic stability, progress, and development in the country.

However, WANEP has urged the incoming leadership to sustain peace, reconcile communities and foster democratic governance for the benefit of the nation. Also, citizens and political party supporters are implored to remain calm, respectful, and tolerant as the political transition unfolds.

“Once again, WANEP applauds its local and international observers, data collectors, analysts,

communication experts and eminent persons in the Election Situation Room (ESR) for contributing

to strengthening democracy and electoral integrity in Liberia. The ESR is an integral part of the

WANEP Electoral violence Monitoring, Analysis, and Mitigation (E-MAM) project, supported by the European Union and complemented by Swedish and Austria Development Agencies,” the statement ended.
