Suspect arrested with drugs valued at LRD5 million

 As the new Liberian administration grapples with the issue of dangerous drugs confronting Liberian society, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) seems to be leaving no screw unturned in going after traffickers, dealers, and consumers, making arrests here, in the past several weeks.

Fishtown, River Gee County, Southeast Liberia -The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in River Gee County has arrested a 40-year-old Nigerian national for being in possession of Heroin and Cocaine valued at 5 million Liberian dollars.

The suspect identified as Friday ILoma, was arrested on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at about 7:35 A.M. in Gbeapo Kanweaken District.

LDEA Commander in the county, Jusu M. Kiadii told reporters that suspect Friday’s arrest followed intelligence received from a community dweller.

He explained that community dwellers had often alarmed that the suspect has been constantly involved in the sale of unlawful drugs, posing threat to the community. 

He has been charged with multiple offenses, including trafficking of narcotics substances, unlicensed distribution, and possession of drugs which contravenes Section 14.103, 14.107, and 14.111 of the Amended Drug Law of Liberia.

Suspect ILoma has be detained in the county, pending trial.

Commander Kiadii described the drug situation in River Gee as worrisome but assured residents that those involved in the unlawful drug sale will be brought to book.

He called on all relevant authorities in the county for necessary support to make the Agency effective, naming lack of mobility and personnel, among others that are seriously hindering the smooth operations of the LDEA there.   

Meanwhile, residents of Gbeapo Kanweaken have lauded the Agency, stressing that they have often complained the suspect for his alleged constant involvement in the sale of illicit drugs.

On February 11, 2024, 29yr-old Patricia Weah, was arrested at Gbeapo Joquiken Check Point in River Gee with 178.3 grams of substance identified as Kush.

She was immediately forwarded to Fish Town Magisterial Court, for further investigation, as she was caught right-handed with the dangerous substances.

But residents were shocked after they saw Suspect Patricia released, few days later carrying on her normal activities. Editing by Jonathan Browne
