Firm stand against violence must be Taken
Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has urged Liberians to take firm stand against violence.
VP Boakai said the country’s bitter war history has thought Liberians the folly of reliance on violence to solve social problems, reechoing the President Sirleaf’s recent warning against the indulgence in acts of violence as a way of conveying grievance that the government cannot preside over a drift back into the days of jungle justice and the survival of the fittest.
Speaking Friday, May 29, 2015 during the celebration of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, held at the United Nations headquarters at the Pan African Plaza in Monrovia, the Vice President of Liberia noted the Liberian people could not over-emphasize how grateful and blessed they were for the sacrifices the world community- through the international peace keepers, had made to save, stabilize and propel their country, lifting it onto the path of true nationhood.
On behalf of President Sirleaf, Boakai indicated that Liberia was particularly heartened by the demonstrated commitment exhibited by the United Nations to remain resolute in its gust for peace, assuring the UN of Liberians’ cooperation in the calculated and scrupulous draw-down plan.
“Liberians reinforce their full assurance to the world body of their continuing commitment to the ideals that occasioned the promulgation of the United Nation security council resolution 1509 of September 2003 that engendered UNMIL,” said VP Boakai. By Bridgett Milton – Edited by George Barpeen
