IAPP launches here shortly
The International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) is expected to be launched in Liberia on 12 July. UPF International consented to work in partnership with the Liberian Legislature for the implementation of a joint program, and has committed to launching the IAPP here.
The joint peace-building and development initiative, which was proposed by Speaker Bhofal Chambers, is in line with UPF’s support for peace consolidation and sustainability in Liberia, as well as its outreach peace initiatives in Africa and the world at large.
UPF is a nongovernmental organization, and has come to Liberia to dialogue and work for that goal.According to the Chairman Dr. Thomas G. Walsh, Speaker Chambers has given them the encouragement and said their doors are opened to them.
The co-chairman of the Committee on Peace, Religion and National Reconciliation of the House of Representatives, Dr. Isaac Roland, attended the Special International Leadership Conference as a proxy of House Speaker Dr. Chambers, who was invited as a Guest of Honor.
Held under the theme: “Addressing the Critical Challenges of our Time: The Responsibility of Parliamentarians and Religious Leaders,” the conference brought together more than 500 parliamentarians and other world leaders, including civil society representatives, academics, and other professionals from February 18-22, 2018 in Seoul, South Korea.
Rep. Roland said while in Seoul, he held a meeting with the leadership of UPF International on behalf of the Speaker and Members of the Legislature and the Government of Liberia.
