Police spokesman Moses Carter refutes rumors that the Liberia National Police has shut down Root Fm, clarifying that Police only reconstructed the crime scene.
The privately-run radio station operated by talk show host Henry Costa recently suffered attack by criminals, who reportedly stole equipment, including a transmitter.
According to Carter, upon receiving information of an alleged armed robbery on Johnson Street at the Lonestar Cell MTN’s property, officers from the Slipway Depot immediately moved on the crime scene.
Speaking on OK FM, another private station in Monrovia on Monday, he explains “When the police got on the scene, they started speaking to some people who were on the ground, including private security. On the first day, we heard the Management of Root FM making claims that their station premises were visited by armed robbers and their security was placed at gun point and their transmitters with other equipment were taken away.”
He says the Police immediately made a call to the Root FM station manager to provide some information on the alleged robbery incident, noting that the station manager promised to have appeared last Thursday with his lawyer, but to the police utmost surprise, the station manager failed to appear.
Carter continues that last Friday, the police officially communicated with the station manager to have him show up with his lawyer. “Since the alleged armed robbery, our officers have been working and speaking to people of interest to be able to establish the fact.”
The Police spokesman further narrates that the Police subsequently took a decision after investigators had visited the Management of Lonestar Cell MTN and established the facility belongs to the GSM Company.
“Doing the interaction, the GSM Company was represented by their lawyer Winston Tabman, Jr. He informed our investigators that the Lonestar Cell MTN Management was not interested in any investigation, because they never communicated to the Police about armed robbery,” he explains.

He says based on the uncooperative posture from the Management of Root FM and Lonestar Cell MTN, Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue ordered his officers to reconstruct the crime scene.Carter maintains that no one will be allowed on the crime scene until the police concluded their investigation.
The station known for being very critical of the George Weah administration has been off air, as Police prevent staff from having access into its studio.
