The SOS Liberia Children Village after reunifying 18 children with their biological parents recently receives additional 30 children through the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) in Monrovia.
Disclosing this in a one-day media forum held at the SOS Headquarters in Matady, a Monrovia suburb, Communication Coordinator Joseph J.B. Joboe says the 30 children will be in the care of the SOS Village Liberia following which they will be reunified with their biological parents or other relatives.
He explains the reunification process is part of SOS Children’s Villages program which allows children to be reunited with their biological parents or other relatives.
SOS Children’s Villages Liberia is a member of the SOS Children‘s Villages International Federation that stated full operations in Liberia in January, 1981 following an agreement between the Government of Liberia and SOS Children’s Villages International.
Mr. Joboe details the acronym “SOS” means Social Organization Society, founded in 1949 by a young Austrian Medical student, Hermann Gmeiner, who witnessed the suffering of many orphaned and abandoned children after World War II, and felt that something had to be done.
He says the SOS Children’s Villages are child care organization committed to providing a nurturing environment for children who lack parental care or risk losing it.
