UNMIL to remove unexploded ordnance today

The United Nations Mission in Liberia or UNMIL has urged the general public not to panic as it undertakes an exercise to remove unexploded ordnance (UXO) that has been discovered in the township of Gardnersville on the outskirts of Monrovia.

The exercise which is expected to take place today Thursday January 21, will be undertaken by a team of UNMIL’s Bangladeshi engineers between 11.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. “This is a routine exercise when such devices are found. The team will be accompanied by members the Armed Forces of Liberia, Liberia National Police and UNMIL peacekeepers,” the UN Mission said in a statement.

It said the exercise is in no way related to the ongoing demolition of structures by the Ministry of Public Works, and residents of Gardnersville have no reason to panic.
