Liberians fear interim government
Reactions from Liberians seem mixed on the prohibition from the Supreme Court here, halting all electoral activities pending full investigation into complaint of fraud and irregularities against results of the October 10, 2017 Presidential and Representatives Elections filed by the Liberty Party with many youth seriously frowning on the high courtโs decision, lamenting that the Court is trying to waste time.
Speaking to this paper on Monday, 6 November 24-year-old Blo Morrias argues that Liberty Party Standard Bearer Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine knows that he lacks the capacity to win the Presidency, so heโs attempting to delay elections.
โWe need to have this one election and be finished with it; the wayย Supreme Court has sent it to NEC, when NEC finished with their ruling
and Liberty Party is not satisfied, they will run back to the Courtย and the delay will be too much in the election, and inauguration is notย farโ, he notes.
A woman in her 50s, Madam Roseline Momo says she doesnโt want any interim arrangement for Liberia, if the legal process drags on, noting that Liberia has reached this far, and Liberians not ready to move backward.
โMy daughter, I have children and some of them are even older thanย you are, we do not want any interim government in this Country, because we have lived in this country for years and we know what happens before interim government comes about, the rule of law needs to do justice to everyone, so that no party can bring war, we are tired of running around with our bundles and childrenโ, she pleads.
For his part, a student of the University of Liberia, Joe Kollie hopes theย NEC investigates the Liberty Party case as soon as possible so the runoff presidential election is conducted, adding, โWe are students and we have not gone anywhere in life, we do not want to start running around, let the
election goes on, anyone who wins, thatโs it, we need a stable government, not an interim government.
