DEA burns 229kg drugs

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (DEA) Bong County Detachment has set ablaze 229 kilogram of drugs including Marijuana and tie white, among others around the New Iron Gate in Bong County.

The DEA carried out the operation on Tuesday, 26 June, burning the 229 kilogram of drugs with a street value of LRD$1,836,380.Speaking to Reporters after the burning exercise, DEA Bong Commander James Borbor says since he took over the assignment almost two months ago, they have been able to confiscate more than 50 kilograms of marijuana.

He adds that only 29 kilograms of the confiscated drugs was burned including the 200 kilograms that was turned over to him by his predecessor Darrous Paye.

According to Mr. Borbor, the additional 33 kilograms is being safely kept by the DEA while investigation continues so as to establish the actual owner of the drugs.

Recently, a class room teacher Jesse Kollie was arrested with 33 kilograms of Marijuana at the Salala Check point, but he has since been released by the DEA after proving innocence during investigation.

An unidentified man is being suspected for carrying 33 kilograms of drugs, he is allegedly on the run, according to the DEA in Bong.Meanwhile, Commander Borbor has called on the public to help the DEA to battle drugs trafficking in the County.

He says Bong County will be drugs free based on the supports of all citizens, especially by giving informing to the DEA and the Police about individuals engaged in drugs deals in their respective communities.

“The DEA is responsible to work so that drugs business can be stopped. But our work will only be done well if those from the community back us by giving us necessary information about those that are doing drugs business in their Community,” Commander Borbor concludes.
