Man guilty of raping daughter in Bong

The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, Bong County, Central Liberia hands down a guilty verdict against Benjamin Duncan, for raping his 11-year-old biological daughter. The crime is incest.

The abuse took place in Gbarnga on December 25, 2017 and Mr. Duncan was finally convicted of statutory rape on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.  The incident was reported after the victim was taken to hospital in February for medication after suffering from sexually transmitted infections. Health workers noticed she was sexually tempered with at which time she confessed the name of her father as being the one who slept with her.

Mr. Duncan was arrested and later released based on alleged order of County Attorney Wilkin Nah, but Attorney Nah denied the allegation, saying it was the public defenders who argued that Mr. Duncan had been held at the police station beyond statutory period.

Following huge public criticism against his release, Benjamin Duncan was re-arrested and sent to court. County Attorney Nah says the defendant was convicted Wednesday by the court for statutory rape and is awaiting sentencing.

A non-bailable offense here, penalties include 10 years imprisonment or life sentence.  The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga within four days is expected to sentence convict Duncan.

Attorney Wilkin Nah assures citizens in the county that Duncan will face maximum prison sentence for the crime he committed on 25th December.
