Norwegian delegation pays Pres. Weah courtesy visit

A delegation from Norway has paid a courtesy call on President George Manneh Weah at his Foreign Ministry Office on Friday March 23, 2018, in Monrovia.

The aim of the visit was to allow the President sign on the “World Ball” which is used at the “World Ball Tournament” to promote peace and development. President Weah commended the Norwegian delegation for their visit and expressed his profound gratitude on-behalf of the Liberian Government for the role the Government of Norway continues to play in contributing towards the development of Liberia. The President acknowledged the strong partnership that exists between both countries and underscored the need to further strengthen such partnership for the benefit of both countries.

President Weah welcomed the initiative of signing the “World Ball” in an effort to promote peace and development. He intimated that as a former Peace and UNICEF goodwill Ambassadors, he will support any initiative that seeks to promote peace, reconciliation and development. The President noted that sustainable peace and reconciliation are cardinal aspects of development and the bedrock of true democracy.

During the visit, Madam Elizabeth Jacobsen, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway informed President Weah that the Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg and several other world leaders have signed on the World Ball for national and international development. According to her, as President Weah signs on the ball on behalf of Liberia, it will be taken back to Norway for other world leaders to sign and be used for development.

“World Ball Tournament” is for both boys and girls under 18. The tournament comprises of about 2,250 teams from all over the world, including Liberia. “We hope that we all can join hands in supporting the World Ball Tournament to achieve this single development goal”, Madam Jacobsen said.

She informed President Weah that following the affixing of his signature, she and members of her delegation will take the “World Ball” back to Norway for other world leaders to sign on it for national and international developments.

Madam Jacobsen assured President Weah that as he signs the “World Ball”, they all can join hands for the next tournament in August, 2018 for sustainable development.

The delegation comprised of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Madam Elizabeth Jacobsen, Ms. Ingrid Buli and Mr. Thomas Gromme, Senior Advisor of World Ball at the Norwegian Embassy in Accra, Ghana.
