Postal Minister speaks on upcoming celebration

Liberia’s Post and Telecommunication Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah has disclosed here that the ministry will make sure that the upcoming World Telecommunication and Information Society Day will be unique for Liberia.


In a News Release issued Tuesday, 15 May, Cllr. Kruah was quoted as saying this year’s celebration is going to be awesome and unique so as to provide Liberia the opportunity to get on path with its counterparts.

Minister Kruah adds that he’s of no doubt that his team at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication (MPT) will deliver historical event that will showcase him and his principal deputies’ talents and the Ministry in the promotion of the people friendly Telecommunication or ICT Sector for the country.

According to the release, the celebration of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is expected to bring together hundreds of Telecommunication and ICT stakeholders within the sector as well as foreign dignitaries including officials of government from line ministries, agencies, and commissions.

The celebration is set to be held under the theme: Enabling the positive use of Artificial Intelligence for All, and it will focus on the potential of artificial intelligence to accelerate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The release says in recent years, there have been some gains made in the Al Technology which made tremendous advances in the contribution of fields including Big Data, Machine Learning, Computing Power, Storage, Capacity, and Cloud Computing, among others.

The MPT release adds that Al Base Technology are emerging as a key component of proactive tools and application being used to help people live a better life by improving healthcare, education, finance, agriculture, transportation, and wide range of services.

At the same time the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union Houlin Zhao says the 2018 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is meant to bridge the gap in technology for all.

According to him, it is not only about celebrating the day, but ensuring that every member country fosters and advances the need for artificial intelligence that will help better the lives of people.–Press release
