Pres. Sirleaf congratulates Nigeria, China

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has sent a congratulatory message to the Governments and Peoples of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China, respectively, on the auspicious occasion marking Nigeria’s 54th Independence and China’s 65th National Day.

President Sirleaf extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Government and People of Nigeria as the West African state observes her  Independence Anniversary Wednesday.

A Foreign Ministry’s press release issued in Monrovia, said in a dispatch sent to her counterpart, President Goodluck Ebebe Jonathan, the Liberian leader expressed hope that the cordial ties of companionship existing between the two countries and peoples will be further strengthened in the spirit of African unity and solidarity.

President Sirleaf thanked the Nigerian Government for her vital contribution in the fight against the deadly Ebola virus disease that is ravaging Liberia and the West African Region as they work together in furtherance of deeper cooperation at the United Nations and other International Organizations aimed at promoting International Peace and Security among nations.

She also prayed that Almighty God will continue to endow President Goodluck Jonathan with abundant wisdom and strength as he leads his people to noble heights.   Meanwhile, in her message to the Chinese President, XI Jinping, President Sirleaf extended warmest felicitations and best wishes to the Chinese leader, and through him, to the Government and People of China.

The Liberia leader also expressed hope that the great people of China will continue to prosper under the prudent policies of the Chinese Government that have contributed to China’s phenomenal economic growth and prosperity, acknowledging China’s continued support to Liberia, especially in the fight against the deadly Ebola virus disease.

“As we join you and your compatriots in observing this joyous occasion, I look forward to continuing the cordial ties of friendship and cooperation existing between our two countries and peoples”, President Sirleaf expressed.

She also prayed that the Government and People of China will continue to enjoy the blessings of peace, national cohesion and increasing prosperity under President Xi Jinping’s leadership.
