As part of effort to ensure that Liberian students earn higher marks in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) formerly WAEC, a youth organization operating in Montserrado County Electoral District #13 has been conducting an intensive 12-day free tutorial for 12th graders in the district that are preparing to sit the annual public test this year in the country.
A total of 5,034 students will sit the general test which is scheduled for May 19, 2014 for 12th graders across Liberia; the 9th grade division of WASSCE already administered.
According to the Chairman of the District #13 Student Union (DINTSU) Gabriel Smith, a total of 150 students drawn from eight senior high schools in New Georgia Estate and other parts of District#13 are currently benefiting from the free tutorials covering all nine subjects administered at WASSCE public exams including Mathematics, Physis, Chemistry and Literature.
Speaking to reporters at one of the two tutorial centers at the William Gabriel Kpoleh Memorial High School in New Georgia Estate on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, the DINTSU boss said the initiative started in 2011 following the mass failure of Liberian students in the 2010 WASSCE exams.
“We organized this tutorial exercise for eight schools for the government exams come May 19, 2014 because as you are awareness bulk of our public exams are not favorable for students evident by the just ended University of Liberia entrance were all 25,000 applicants got no blue mark” he said, adding that “base on this we decided to organize tutorial for our 12th graders to build their capacity so as they go to the test they will have an independent mind in taking the test”.
Mr. Smith said that DINTSU whole action was prompted by the 2010 WASSCE where he said almost all Liberian school failed. “WAEC considered that the mass failure in 2010 by Liberia as collusion so based that on that we started to organize this student grouping that will help our students, prepare them for WASSCE and we started that since 2011,” he said.
Mr. Smith stated that there have WASSCE results has been impressive in District #13 since the organization started operating in country, adding that 80% to 90% of all of the students that attended DINTSU free tutorials has been coming out of WASSCE exams with flying colors.

Sah Jr. said the tutorial which started May 5, 2014 and expected to end by the 16 of May 2014 has helped him improved his skill in solving Physis and Mathematics problems.
